Announcement from American Council on Gift Annuities

New Suggested Rate Schedules Effective January 1, 2012
Approved by the American Council on Gift Annuities in November 2011

On Friday, November 18, the American Council on Gift Annuities (ACGA) announced revised suggested maximum gift annuity rates. The new suggested rates, which will apply to gift annuities established on or after January 1, 2012, are significantly lower than the ones they replace. By policy WELS Foundation offers charitable gift annuities with payout rates not to exceed those suggested by the ACGA.

WHAT IS A GIFT ANNUITY?

A charitable gift annuity is a contract between a WELS member and WELS Foundation, in which the member makes a gift of cash or securities (stocks, bonds, mutual funds) in exchange for fixed annuity payments, generally for life. After the Lord calls the annuitant(s) home, the remainder of the gift is distributed to the congregation or ministry as designated by the member.

As of June 30, 2011, WELS Foundation administered 578 gift annuity contracts.
